A three-year letterman, he captained the 1943 football team, which compiled an overall record of 6-4. He received United Press All-America and Associated Press All-East honorable mention honors as a center in 1943. He was selected on the East team that played in the East-West Shrine Game in San Francisco on New Year[apos]s Day 1944. He was also on the College All-Star team that played against the Chicago Bears. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles, but because of World War II he enlisted in the Navy and could not pursue a professional football career. Mr. Cushing, who came to Cornell from his hometown of Eggertsville, N.Y., and prepared at Amherst Central High School, was a resident of Jamesville, N.Y., before moving to Florida in 1979. Prior to his death, he was a consultant for calibrating and striping running tracks. One of his biggest projects was with New York state for a track in Buffalo that was used for the World University Games in 1993.
