Biography

A specialist in the sprint events, she set six indoor and outdoor track individual records, in addition to records as a member of various relay teams. She won three individual outdoor Ivy League track championships, taking the 400 meters title in 1979, and in 1980 she won both the 200- and 100-meter dash events. She also placed second in the 200 meters in 1979. She anchored the 4x100 relay to the Ivy championship in 1979 and was a member of the 4x400 relay which placed first in 1980. At the indoor Hepatagonal Invitational in 1980, she won both the 55 meters and 200 meters. At the New York state outdoor championships in 1979, she won the 100- and 220-yard dash events, in addition to running a leg of the victorious 880 medley relay. She placed fifth in the finals of the 60- yard dash at the indoor Eastern championships in 1979, and reached the semifinals of the 200 meters at the outdoor Easterns the following year. She was a member of the distance medley relay which placed seventh at the Penn Relays her sophomore year. Clarke was elected captain of the team as a junior and was named the squad[apos]s most valuable performer in 1979. She is a graduate of the Central Technical School in Toronto, Ont.
