James Bennett Jr.

Biography

He was a three-year letterman and starter at forward for the Big Red[apos]s basketball team from 1938-41, scoring more than 700 points in those three varsity seasons. He was third among Eastern Intercollegiate League scorers his junior and senior years, and was a three-time all-league selection. He led the team in scoring as a junior and senior and was an Eastern League All-Star pick in a poll of the major college coaches both years. While attending laws school at Cornell, Bennett coached the Big Red freshman basketball team in 1946-47 and the junior varsity squad the next season. Bennett came to Cornell from Poland, Ohio, where he attended Poland Seminary and then played a season o basketball at Phillips Exeter Academy before entering the University.
