A two-time All-Ivy first-team selection as a midfielder in lacrosse, he was named to the All-America second team in 1981. He was chosen the Ivy League Player of the Year in 1981, when he led the league in scoring as Cornell won the Ancient Eight title with a 6-0 record. He was voted the team[apos]s most valuable player and was tri-captain as a senior. During his two years with the Big Red, Engelke recorded 53 points on 25 goals and 28 assists. He transferred to Cornell from Nassau Community College, where he was a two-time first-team junior college All-American. He was selected to play for Team USA in the World Lacrosse Championships in 1982, 1986 and 1990. Engelke graduated from Sewanhaka (N.Y.) High School and resides in Massapequa, N.Y.
