Cornell University Athletics

He worked on the grounds staff of the Cornell University Athletic Department for 51 years, 21 of them as foreman, supervising and maintaining one of the largest sports operations in the country. He first worked for Cornell[apos]s buildings and grounds department in 1914, before serving in World War I as an infantry private, and then came to the athletic department in 1919. During the 51 years he worked for the Cornell Athletic Association, he saw the athletic campus expand, both in acreage and masonry. His duties were multiple - marking the athletic fields, maintaining the natural grass field at Schoellkopf, taking canoes to Beebe Lake for the women[apos]s athletic department, loading crew shells, and setting up Barton Hall for the various athletic activities, including the Indoor Heptagonal Track Championships which drew capacity crowds. Mr. Padula, who retired from the University in 1971, was a resident of Ithaca, N.Y.
