Biography

He was a two-time All-Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League first-team selection, as an outfielder in 1971 and as a third baseman in 1969. He was named the team[apos]s MVP in 1971, when he was also the recipient of the Blair Bat Award as the EIBL[apos]s batting champion (.419). He was named to the District II All-Start firs team and to the American Association of College Baseball Coaches All-America third team in 1971. He led the [apos]71 team in batting average (.371), RBI (45), doubles (11) and hits (143), and was among the national leaders in RBI with a game averae of 1.25. He also pitched in seven games his senior year. He compiled a three-year career batting average of .309. Watzka is a graduate of Kingston (N.Y.) High School.
