As an undergraduate, MacNeil was a backcourt regular from 1949 through 1951. A dependable floorman and a crack set shooter, he played a major role in Cornell[apos]s 20-5 basketball season in 1950-51, the best record ever compiled by the Big Red. He lettered as an outfielder in baseball in 1950-[apos]51. MacNeil was named head coach of basketball at Cornell in 1959 after serving five years as coach of the Big Red[apos]s freshman team. Through his varsity coaching career, Cornell did not have a losing season and registered several major upsets over nationally prominent teams on their own courts--notably over Illinois in 1961, over Kentucky in 1966, and over Ohio State in 1968. MacNeil compiled a nine-year coaching record of 139 wins and 79 losses. His 1964-65 team went 19-5 and that club established the single season high of 15 straight wins. He has worked as a New York State Assemblyman from the 128th district.
