Terry Kent

Biography

As a freshman wrestler at Cornell, he posted an 8-4 overall record at 190 pounds and was an All-Ivy first-team selection. He did not compete again until 1986, when he compiled a 7-0 overall record, including a 5-0 mark against Ivy competition, and was named to the All-Ivy second team. A world-class competitor in kayaking, he has participated in the last three Olympics. At the 1984 Games in Los Angeles, he placed fourth in the 1,000-meter doubles, just missing a bronze medal by .21 seconds. The fourth-place finished was the highest ever for a U.S. pairs boat. At the [apos]88 Olympic Games in Seoul, he guided the U.S. to its first-ever Olympic final in the K-2 500, finishing eighth in the finals. He was a member of the American four-man boat which finished ninth in the 1,000-meter finals at the [apos]92 Games. In 1986, Kent was the recipient of the Southland Olympia Award, sanctioned by the U.S. Olympic Committee and given for outstanding achievement in amateur athletics. He is a graduate of Brighton High School in Rochester, N.Y.
