At Cornell
Johnson played in nine contests at receiver and on special teams to earn a letter as a junior in 2010. He caught five passes for 45 yards, including two catches for 30 yards against Yale. Included was a career-long 20-yard reception. As a sophomore in 2009, Johnson played in nine games on both special teams and as a wide receiver. He moved to wide receiver in the spring of 2009 after playing quarterback during his freshman campaign, and that move paid dividends. Johnson played on the junior varsity as a rookie, earning significant snaps under center. Johnson is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

At Ithaca
Johnson started at quarterback as a senior at Ithaca HS after transferring from Ann Arbor Huron HS in Michigan. Johnson tossed for 1,093 yards and eight touchdowns and added 246 rushing yards and four scores as a senior. The first-team all-section pick was also named to the Ithaca Journal 11 All-Star football team. He was selected to play in the Ernie Davis All-Star Classic, passing for 45 yards and two touchdowns in the contest. Johnson was voted Ithaca’s MVP and was selected to receive the Scholar-Athlete Award by the Southern Tier Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. A three-year basketball starter at Ithaca and Ann Arbor Huron, he was a first-team all-league pick as a senior and was selected to play in the Section All-Star Game. Johnson was a three-sport star who also competed in track and field.
