Stewart was a dominant force through the first several weeks of the season at defensive tackle before missing the final six games of the season due to injury. He ended the year with 13 tackles, including 4.0 for a loss and two sacks. He opened the year with a monster game against Bucknell, recording four tackles with three for a loss and two sacks. He also posted six tackles in the win over Wagner. Stewart emerged as one of the team's top defensive linemen in 2010 despite struggling with injuries. He played in six contests with four starts, registering 11 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack. Stewart had a 12-yard sack in the win over Bucknell and posted a season-high three stops against Wagner, Colgate and Penn. As a freshman in 2009, Stewart saw action in nine contests with three starts at defensive end. He made 13 tackles, posted a tackle for loss and a forced fumble. Stewart had three tackles and forced a fumble against Columbia and also had three stops at Colgate. The team's Dick Schaap Award winner recognizing the freshmen who contributed most to the varsity team, his strength and quickness will make him a regular on the defensive line in the years to come.

At Strake Jesuit
Stewart was an all-league and all-district selection on the defensive line and as a kicker at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory HS, helping the squad to district titles in both 2006 and 2008. An academic all-state pick as a senior, he was named the top kicker in the Houston region at the Ray Guy kicking camp. Stewart is also a three-year starter on the basketball team.

Personal
Hugh Patrick Stewart is the son of Paul and Amy Stewart and has a younger brother. His Uncle Mike played football at Maryland, while his Uncle Robert wrestled at Salisbury State. Stewart is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
