Biography

As a Senior (2011)
Kemp had a breakout season as the captain for the Big Red. The former walk-on had never finished higher than sixth for Cornell prior to 2011 but finished in the team's top five in five of six races as a senior. Kemp's final season of cross country opened with a second-place finish at the Army-Binghamton meet, and his consistency followed the rest of the year. He placed 10th at the Colgate Invitational, 54th at the Paul Short Invitational and 18th at the Princeton Invitational. At the Heptagonal Championships, he finished just out of the Cornell scoring in sixth place on the team (36th overall), but he improved over the last two weeks of the year to finish fourth among Big Red runners (50th) at the NCAA Northeast Regionals.

At Cornell
Kemp's career has been characterized by constant improvement. He ran 26:02 for a cross country 8K as a freshman and 31:33 in his first 10K on the track. As a sophomore he qualified for IC4As in the 10K with a time of 31:01. In his junior year, Kemp focussed exclusively on the steeplechase during the outdoor track season, hoping to contribute to the team's 2011 Ivy League campaign and score at the HEPS. Although he fell short of that goal, he posted a seven-second improvement over his best 2010 performance with a time of 9:22.

Before Cornell
Kemp was a state champion in the two mile in 2008 and was the individual runner-up in cross country in 2006. He competed on three straight regional championship teams as a sophomore, junior and senior, winning individual titles as well. He served as team captain for three straight seasons for both cross country and track and field.

Personal
Chandler Ernest Kemp is the son of Ernest and Debra Kemp and has an older sister. He is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
