As a Junior (2015-16)
Israel had a strong cross country season as a junior, winning the Harry F. Anderson Invitational, placing fifth at the Brother Jasper invitational and finishing 23rd at Ivy League Cross Country Championships. He also advanced to the NCAA Division I Northeast Region Championships, where he placed 58th.
On the track, he picked up a win in the indoor 5K at the Marc Deneault Invitational. Outdoors, he set a personal best in the 10K at the Bison Outdoor Classic, finishing in 29:54.12. He then placed 13th at Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonals in the 10K before picking up another 13th-place finish at IC4A Championships.
As a Sophomore (2014-15)
Israel finished ninth at the John Reif Memorial Run with a time of 26:15.0 and rounded out the scoring for Cornell at the Harry Anderson Invitational.

On the track, Israel earned his first IC4A qualifier in the steeplechase at Bucknell. Â He also finished fourth in the 5K at the Cornell Invitational with a time of 14:53.16.
As a Freshman (2013-14)
Israel started his Big Red career with a 10th-place finish at the season-opener against Army with a time of 26:05.8. He also ran at the Boston College Invitational, the Paul Short Invitational and the Reif Memorial Run (13th place - 25:42.4).
Before Cornell
Israel competed on the cross country team as well as the indoor and outdoor track and field teams at Holy Ghost Prep and captained the teams in 2011 and 2012. He was the Bicentennial Athletic League cross country champion and a District 1 and Pennsylvania state medalist in 2011. His high school personal best was 9:26 for 3200 meters. Israel transfered to Cornell from Temple University.Â

Zachary Austin Israel is the son of Robert '85 and Anne Israel. He is enrolled in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.Â
