At Cornell
Carroll joined the Big Red as a walk-on in 2008 and his work ethic impressed the coaching staff. He moved from linebacker to the defensive line in the spring of 2009 and climbed the depth chart to become a starter in 2009. Carroll ended the season with 17 tackles with 2.0 tackles for loss and a sack. His best game came against Princeton with three tackles, including a sack. He also had three stops, including on behind the line of scrimmage, in the win over Bucknell. Carroll is enrolled in the College of Engineering.

At Corning-Painted Post West
Carroll was a three-sport athlete at Corning-Painted Post West HS. A three-year letter winner as a linebacker and offensive lineman, he was selected to participate in the Ernie Davis All-Star Classic. A two-year captain, he was named to the all-league team as a junior and senior. He also competed in wrestling and track and field, serving as captain of the wrestling team his final two seasons.

Personal
Brian Patrick Carroll is the son of Michael and Patricia Carroll and has an older and younger brother. His brother, Chris, is a senior at Cornell.
