Biography
• Team Captain (2019-20)
• IRA All-Academic Team (2019)
As a senior (2019-20)
• Elected team captain for the 2019-20 campaign.
• Part of the lightweight varsity eight that earned bronze at the 55th Head of the Charles Regatta, crossing the finish line in 14:13.256.
• Helped the lightweight varsity eight secure a second place finish in Flight 1 at the Princeton Chase, posting a time of 13:14.933.
• Member of the Cornell A 8+ boat that finished as the runner-up in Flight 2 at the Cornell Autumn Classic with a mark of 11:03.56.
• Along with partner Luke Small, finished fourth in the men’s 2- at the Cornell Autumn Classic with a time of 13:34.62.
• Spring 2020 season canceled due to COVID-19.
As a junior (2018-19)
• Rowed on the second varsity eight during his junior campaign.
• Helped the second varsity eight win the EARC Sprints and earn a gold medal with a time of 6:42.95.
• Won a bronze medal with the varsity 4+ in the Grand Final at the IRA Championships.
• Guided the second varsity eight to victories over Dartmouth, Princeton, and Columbia.
As a sophomore (2017-18)
• Rowed in the second varsity eight for the majority of his sophomore season before rowing with the lightweight 4+ for IRAs.
• Won a silver medal in the second varsity eight at Eastern Sprints.
• Helped the second varsity eight to wins over Princeton and Dartmouth.
• Stroked the lightweight 4+ that advanced to the Petite Finals at IRAs.
As a freshman (2016-17)
• Began his rookie season as a member of the third varsity eight.
• Quickly moved to the second varsity eight where he rowed the crew to victory over Columbia and MIT.
• Also helped the second varsity eight defeat Dartmouth.
• Rowed with the varsity four at the IRA National Championships, taking fourth place in the Grand Final.
Prior to Cornell
• Earned three varsity letters in rowing at Junipero Serra High School and was named MVP his senior year.
• At the 2016 Youth National Regatta, he placed fifth in the men's double.
• In 2015, Kost won a gold medal at the Royal Canadian Henley in the men's U19 varsity eight, rowing with Oakland Strokes.
• Earned a gold in the men's junior lightweight at the Peninsula Indoor Rowing Championships (2015).
• Took second in the Petite Finals of the men's varsity eight at the 2015 Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) Championships.
• As a junior in high school, he earned a gold medal in the U17 8+ at the 2015 USRowing Club Nationals with Sarasota Crew.
Personal
• Alexander McCracken Kost is the son of Fred and Lisa Kost and he has one younger sister.
• His father Fred rowed for Purdue.
• Enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the SC Johnson College of Business.
