• IRA National Champion with the lightweight eight (2017)

As a senior (2019-20)
• Did not compete (Spring 2020 season canceled due to COVID-19).
As a junior (2018-19)
• Did not compete.
As a sophomore (2017-18)
• Rowed in the varsity eight vs. Harvard and Penn.
As a freshman (2016-2017)
• Consistently rowed with the varsity eight that won the 2017 IRA National Championship and captured an undefeated season in 2017.
• Member of the varsity eight that was named the EARC Lightweight Crew of the Year following the season.
• Rowed the Big Red to its 11th Ivy League Championship at the 2017 EARC Sprints.
• Also named first-team All-Ivy by virtue of winning the Ivy League.
Prior to Cornell
• Rowed for five years at Niskayuna High School.
• Won consecutive gold medals in the boys’ senior quad at the New York State Scholastic Championships (2015, 2016), after taking gold medals in the boys’ junior eight and boys’ junior quad as a sophomore.
• Medaled four times at the Stotesbury Cup, earning silver and bronze in the boys’ senior quad in 2015 and 2016, respectively, and bronze in the boys’ junior quad in 2014.
• Also won a bronze medal in the boys junior quad at the 2014 Scholastic Nationals, before a pair of fourth-place finishes in the boys’ senior quad in each of the next two seasons.
• Won the team’s Top Bolt award three times, given to the rower whose contribution to the team holds the team together like a top bolt holds a rigger together.
• Twice named a New York State Scholastic Rowing Association Scholar-Athlete.
Personal
• Gideon Herschel Schmidt is the son of Stephen and Alexandra Schmidt and he has one younger brother and one younger sister.
• Enrolled in the College of Engineering.
