Biography
As a junior (2019-20)
• Coxed the lightweight varsity eight boat that earned bronze at the 55th Head of the Charles Regatta, crossing the finish line in 14:13.256.
• Helped the second varsity eight place eighth out of 30 boats in Flight 1 at the Princeton Chase with a time of 13:35.915.
• Coxed the Cornell B 4+ boat in Flight 1 at the Cornell Autumn Classic, helping the group clock a time of 13:06.52.
• Coxswain of the Cornell A 8+ boat that finished as the runner-up in Flight 2 at the Cornell Autumn Classic with a mark of 11:03.56.
• Spring 2020 season canceled due to COVID-19.
As a sophomore (2018-19)
• Coxed the third varsity eight for the majority of his sophomore season.
• Advanced to the Grande Final with the third varsity eight at the EARC Sprints, finishing sixth overall.
• Helped the third varsity eight to a victory over Princeton with a time of 5:57.20.
• Guided the third varsity eight to a win over Penn to give Cornell the edge to win the Leonard Points Cup.
Prior to Cornell
• Was a member of the Albany Rowing Center for five years.
• Served as team captain during the 2016-17 season.
• Coxed the first boys sweep boat in team history to race at Youth Nationals.
• Won gold in the varsity four at the 2017 New York State Championship Regatta.
• Took silver in the varsity four at the 2016 Head of the Fish Regatta.
Personal
• James Aloysius Cashen is the son of Jim and Elise Cashen and he has three sisters and one brother.
• Two sisters, Hannah ’16 and Livvy ’19, are Cornellians.
• Grandfather, James Cashen, attended the Cornell Law School, while his great uncle, Tony Cashen, also graduated from Cornell.
• Enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
