2020-21 Men's Rowing - Lightweight Roster
Biography
As a junior (2019-20)
• Rowed on the second varsity eight that placed eighth out of 30 boats in Flight 1 at the Princeton Chase with a time of 13:35.915.
• Teamed up with Kade Hawkins to compete in the men’s 2- in Flight 1 at the Cornell Autumn Classic.
• Rowed on the Cornell B 8+ boat in Flight 2 at the Cornell Autumn Classic, recording a time of 12:00.60.
• Spring 2020 season canceled due to COVID-19.
As a sophomore (2018-19)
• Rowed on the third varsity eight during his sophomore campaign.
• Advanced to the Grand Final with the third varsity eight at the EARC Sprints, finishing sixth overall.
• Helped the third varsity eight triumph over Princeton with a time of 5:57.20.
• Helped the third varsity eight down Penn, giving Cornell the edge to with the Leonard Points Cup.
As a freshman (2017-18)
• Rowed in the third varsity eight during his freshman year.
• Helped the crew to wins against Penn, Princeton, Columbia, and Dartmouth.
• Rowed with the third varsity eight that took sixth place at Eastern Sprints.
Prior to Cornell
• Earned three varsity letters in rowing at Walt Whitman High School
• Served as team captain and was named team MVP during his senior season.
• Named All-Met honorable mention in 2017 and a Scholar Athlete in 2016.
• Won a pair of MidAtlantic Erg Sprints championships in the junior lightweight men 1,500-meter (2014) and in the junior lightweight men 2K (2016).
• Was also a member of the Thompson Boat Center.
• Won gold in the men’s under-19 eight at the 2016 USRowing Club National Championships.
• Earned silver in the men’s under-19 eight at the 2016 Royal Canadian Henley.
• Picked up a silver medal in the men’s under-17 eight at the 2014 USRowing Club National Championships.
• Placed fourth in both the men’s under-19 pair and the men’s under-19 quad at the 2016 USRowing Club National Championships
• Finished 15th in the men’s youth eight at the 2016 Head of the Charles.
Personal
• Joseph Lawrence While is the son of Todd While and Mariella While and he has four brothers.
• Enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
