Biography
As a senior (2019-20)
• Did not compete (Spring 2020 season canceled due to COVID-19).
As a junior (2018-19)
• Did not compete.
Prior to Cornell
• Rowed for four years with Manhasset High School, earning the team’s Most Valuable Rower award twice, as well as the team’s Coaches Award twice.
• Won a gold medal in the men’s lightweight at the 2015 Gold Coast Classic Sprints and took silver medals in the men’s varsity at the 2016 Gold Coast Classic Sprints and in the men’s lightweight at the 2015 Strong Island Sprints.
• Earned a bronze medal in the varsity eight at the 2015 New York State Scholastic Championship Regatta (NYSSRA) and was a two-time NYSSRA Scholar Athlete.
• Placed 17th out of 228 rowers at the 2015 C.R.A.S.H.-B Sprints World Indoor Rowing Championships.
Personal
• John James Petrakis is the son of James and Ronnie Nanos Petrakis and he has three younger brothers.
• Enrolled in the College of Engineering.
