Biography
As a junior (2019-20)
• Competed on the Cornell A 4+ boat in Flight 1 at the Cornell Autumn Classic, clocking a time of 13:24.08.
• Rowed on the Cornell B 8+ boat in Flight 2 at the Cornell Autumn Classic, recording a time of 12:00.60.
• Rowed on the third varsity eight in Flight 1 at the Princeton Chase, helping the boat record a time of 14:21.201.
• Spring 2020 season canceled due to COVID-19.
As a sophomore (2018-19)
• Rowed on the third varsity eight as a sophomore.
• Advanced to the Grand Final with the third varsity eight at the EARC Sprints, finishing sixth overall.
• Helped the third varsity eight triumph over Princeton with a time of 5:57.20.
• Helped the third varsity eight down Penn, giving Cornell the edge to with the Leonard Points Cup.
As a freshman (2017-18)
• Moved into the third varsity eight for the final four races of the season after rowing with the fourth varsity eight vs. Harvard and Penn.
• Helped the third varsity eight to wins against Princeton, Columbia, and Dartmouth.
• Rowed with the third varsity eight that took sixth place at Eastern Sprints.
Prior to Cornell
• Invited to 2017 U19 Men's National Team Selection Camp.
• Participated in the 2016 U19 Men's National Team High Performance Camp.
• Four-year letter winner at Fordham Preparatory School.
• Two-time team captain.
• Stroked the men's senior eight to three consecutive New York State Scholastic Championships (2015, 2016, 2017).
• Stroked the varsity eight tot a fifth place finish at 2016 SRAA National Championships.
• Winner of Fordham Preparatory 2017 Jack McLaughlin Outstanding Athlete Award.
• Rowed with the New York Athletic Club
• Earned a pair of silver medals (men’s senior elite lightweight eight; men’s senior elite lightweight four) and a pair of bronze medals (men’s intermediate lightweight four; men’s senior elite lightweight quad) at 2017 USRowing Club National Championship.
• Took home a bronze medal in the under-19 men's eight at 2016 USRowing Club National Championships.
• Finished sixth overall out of 237 competitors at 2016 C.R.A.S.H.-B Sprints in the men's junior lightweight division.
Personal
• Matthew Thomas Ptucha is the son of Paul and Patricia Ptucha and he has two brothers.
• Brother, Bryan, rowed at Holy Cross (2010-12) before finishing his collegiate career with the Columbia lightweight rowing team (2013-15).
• Enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
