Brown lettered twice in swimming at Dana Hills high school. He swam the 100 free and the 100 back events and was named a scholar-athlete.

Theodore Roderick Brown is the son of Roderick Brown and Dana Loughridge and he has one younger brother. His grandfather Samual Brown graduated from Cornell in 1941. Brown is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
