As a Freshman (2013)
Sommer played in seven games for the Big Red as a freshman, earning a start against Colgate on Oct. 15 and recording one shot on goal at St. Joseph's on Sept. 21. 

Before Cornell
Sommer played his club soccer for Mustang Celtic of the Regional Academy League and the Western College Development Association. His team won the Super Group in the US Club Soccer Regionals in 2010 as well as winning a league title and being a State Cup semifinalist the same year. At Head-Royce School, Sommer started varsity as a freshman in 2009 and scored 13 goals to lead his team and set the school record for goals. He continued his strong performance throughout his four years as his team won the Bay Counties League East each year and was North Coast Section semifinalists in 2012. In 2009 and 2010, he played on the District ODP and Northern California ODP team.

Personal
Alexander John Sommer is the son of Dan Sommer and Erika Anderson. He has an older sister, Katie, and is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
