As a Senior (2013)
Williams played much of the same role he had played in previous seasons for the Big Red, but did so as one of the team's three captains in 2013. A defensive-minded midfielder who was often called upon to be the only man in the backfield when most of the team pulled forward on set pieces, Williams also intercepted passes and worked hard to win 50-50 balls and spark the Big Red offense in transition. He finished the season third on the team with 1,583 minutes played as well as one assist; setting up Peter Chodas' game-winning goal against St. Joseph's on Sept. 21. At season's end, Williams earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy recognition.
As a Junior (2012)
A stifling defensive midfielder, Williams continued to excel at stopping opponents from getting quality strikes on goal. He intercepted passes all season and was the team’s last line of defense on corner kicks. Starting in all 16 games, Williams earned assists against Wofford, Saint Joseph’s and Dartmouth in setting up goals for his teammates.
As a Sophomore (2011)
Williams was one of five players who started and played in every game for the Big Red, and he mostly held a defensive role on the midfield. Though he did tally assists in the Hofstra and Harvard games, Williams’ main goal was to play back and distribute the ball. He saw 1,528 minutes of action, took seven shots and had five land on goal in an excellent sophomore season.
As a Freshman (2010)
Williams was a key contributor in the midfield for the Big Red in his first season, earning the starting nod in 13 of the 15 games in which he appeared. He made his collegiate debut in the starting lineup against Long Island in the season opener. Williams missed two games in mid-September, but closed out the season by starting each of the final eight contests.
Before Cornell
Williams was a first-team all-state selection as a senior and twice earned first-team all-conference accolades at Noblesville, scoring nine goals and adding 11 assists in his final season. He also won six state champions with his club team, FC Pride Storm.
Personal
Benjamin Bruce Williams is the son of David Williams and Molly Garner and has an older sister. He is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
