ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell men[apos]s soccer program announced today that Chip Warner has been hired as an assistant coach for the Big Red. Warner has seven years of coaching experience, including stints in Divisions I, II and III and has coached both men[apos]s and women[apos]s teams.
Warner joins the Big Red after most recently spending four years as an assistant coach for the Colgate men[apos]s soccer program. He helped the Raiders to an 11-6-1 record last season, the third best record in school history.
Prior to Colgate, Warner had a one-year stint at LeMoyne College as an assistant men[apos]s soccer coach and spent two years each at Cazenovia College as an assistant women[apos]s soccer coach and at his alma mater, St. Bonaventure University, where he was an assistant for the men[apos]s soccer team.
Warner played four years of soccer at St. Bonaventure and served as team captain, earning a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the university. After graduation, he played for the Roanoke Wrath, a professional D-3 soccer league. In 1998 he participated in the Rochester Raging Rhinos[apos] training camp.
Warner replaces Nate Fuller [apos]00, who will be pursuing a master[apos]s degree at New York University. Fuller was a volunteer assistant coach in 2000 and an assistant coach in 2002 and 2004.
Warner also is a founding member of the Syracuse Junior Salty Dogs F.C., an elite club team and was a part of the New York West Olympic Development Program from 1999-2000.
The Big Red will see its first action of the year on Friday, Sept. 2, when Lehigh visits Berman Field for the season opener.
