Biography

As a Senior (2019)

• First Team All-Ivy League honoree.
• Served as a team captain.
• Appeared in 17 games and made 17 starts for the Big Red, rarely leaving the field for Cornell.
• Named Ivy League Player of the Week on Sept. 30 after scoring the game-winning overtime goal against Akron.
• Tallied two goals and one assist. First goal of the season came at Syracuse, giving the Big Red a 2-1 lead over the Orange in the first half.


As a Junior (2018)

• Served as a team captain.
• Appeared in 15 games and made 14 starts for the Big Red.
• Despite missing two games, still saw the most playing time on the team with 1254 minutes of action.
• His lone point on the season came in the form of an assist on Sept. 2 against St. Francis Brooklyn
 

As a Sophomore (2017)

• Returned to the lineup junior year as a tri-captain and made an immediate impact on the backline.
• Starting in all 17 matches this season, was just one of two members on the team to play in all 1,604 minutes of game action.
• Was one of three on the squad to start in all 17 matches.
• Was the top point-scoring defender for Cornell, registering three points from one goal and one assist.
• Lone goal of the year was the game-winning midfield strike that lifted the squad to a 4-3 overtime victory over Colgate.
 

As a Freshman (2015)

• Became an integral part of the Big Red backline in his debut season at Cornell, rarely leaving the pitch.
• Played in 16 games and started 12, racking up 1,232 minutes as part of a defensive unit that never yielded more than two goals in a game.
• Was a force to be reckoned with on the flank and was often able to turn strong defense into a counterattack.
 

Before Cornell

• Played two seasons of varsity soccer at Notre Dame High School in Elmira, N.Y., where, in his sophomore season, he became team captain and was honored as Interscholastic Athletic Conference South MVP.
• Also named first-team Interscholastic Athletic Conference in both his freshman and sophomore seasons, before playing for Empire Revolution of the US Soccer Federation Development Academy.
• Ranked #142 in Top Drawer Soccer’s list of Top 150 recruits, #4 in the New York region and #33 among defenders.

Personal

• Ryan Phillip Bayne is the son of John and Gwynne Bayne.
• John Bayne was inducted into the Cornell Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998, honoring his achievements in soccer and track in the late 80s.
• Ryan’s uncle, Steven, and aunt, Bernadette, also attended Cornell.
• Ryan has three younger brothers, Connor, Kevin and Liam.
• He is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
