2016-17 Men's Squash Roster
Biography
Senior Season — 2016-17
Freeman served as a co-captain and frequently held down the No. 1 position in the Big Red's order for a second straight year. He posted an 8-11 record while being one of just four to compete in all of the team's 19 matches. He went on to compete in the CSA National Individual Championships, where he reached the semifinals of the Molloy South bracket and finished the year with a national ranking of 25th. Freeman's only three appearances at the No. 2 spot resulted in clean victories during the Cornell Round Robin, then he anchored the top of the lineup thereafter. He won two of his three matches in the Hoehn Cup, staving off his opponent to win in five sets in the quarterfinals against Navy before winning in four against George Washington in the finale. The program also presented Freeman with the Best Sportsmanship Award after the season.
Junior Season — 2015-16
Freeman competed exclusively at the No. 1 position, where he posted a 6-11 record in team matches. He went on to compete at the CSA National Individual Championships, where he went as far as the quarterfinals of the Molloy (A) Division en route to a season-ending national ranking of 26th. Freeman then collected multiple honors at the team's postseason banquet, where he was tabbed the team's Most Improved Player, Most Sportsmanlike Player and received Co-Match of the Season honors for his memorable five-set victory against an opponent from Princeton to clinch a 5-4 upset victory for the Big Red on Feb. 12. Freeman was also named a CSA Scholar Athlete.
Sophomore Season — 2014-15
Freeman was 8-9 and joined tri-captain Graham Dietz '16 as the only members of the squad to compete in all 17 team matches. Freeman was one of just four members of the Big Red to appear as high as No. 2 in the order, though he registered a 4-6 record from the No. 4 spot and also competed in three matches apiece at Nos. 5 and 6. He started the season red hot, winning five consecutive matches — including five-set affairs and Williams' Christopher Wilkinson and Brown's Oliver Booth. He went on to win three of seven Ivy League matches and was named the team's Most Improved Player and was deemed to have the team's Match of the Season at the postseason banquet.
Prior to Cornell
Playing out of Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club, Freeman joined the Big Red as the fourth-ranked junior in British Columbia and ninth-ranked junior in Canada. He will give the Big Red a representative of western Canada for a fifth consecutive year, following the four-year careers of brothers Chris Stinson and Stephen Stinson from Richmond, B.C.
