Biography
CSA Scholar Athlete (2019, 2020)
As a senior (2019-20)
• Named College Squash Association Scholar Athlete for second straight year.
• Appeared in four scoring matches, including a three-game victory from the No. 6 position in a Nov. 17 match against an opponent from Hobart.
As a junior (2018-19)
• Named College Squash Association Scholar-Athlete.
• Appeared once, competing at No. 7 position in non-league match against Trinity on Jan. 16.
As a sophomore (2017-18)
• Posted a 5-12 record, with all but one appearance coming from the bottom third of the order.
• Won Ivy League debut, rallying to win in four against his opponent from Columbia at No. 9 on Dec. 2.
• Ended the season on a high note by staving off an opponent from Navy for a five-game win at No. 9 on Feb. 25 in Hoehn Cup competition.
Prior to Cornell
• Competed with Bowdoin for one season before transferring to East Hill, posting a 6-15 record with the Polar Bears during the 2016-17 season from the No. 2 spot in the order.
• Spent four seasons at Deerfield Academy in his native Massachusetts and was a four-time recipient of the US Squash Scholar Athlete Award.
Personal
• James Havemeyer Webb Paolella is the son of John Paolella and Elliot Bostwick Davis, and he has one brother.
• Brother, William, competed on the squash team at Georgetown.
• Mother competed for the squash team at Princeton, winning three Howe Cups.
• Enrolled in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
