Biography
Senior Season — 2017-18
Obieta-Chichizola was defeated in eight scoring matches, six from the No. 6 position and two from No. 8.
Junior Season — 2016-17
Obieta-Chichizola posted three victories among 10 appearance from the bottom third of the order. He started the season with a victory against an opponent from Dickinson in the Cornell Round Robin, then earned his first career Ivy League victory in a Feb. 10 match against Princeton. Obieta-Chichizola then helped punctuate the Big Red's victory over Navy in the Hoehn Cup quarterfinals with a four-set victory in the final rotation.
Sophomore Season — 2015-16
Obieta-Chichizola was 1-2 in his three matches on the season, competing from the middle portion of the order. His victory came in three sets against an opponent from Hobart on Feb. 14.
Freshman Season — 2014-15
In all but two of the Big Red's matches, Obieta-Chichizola was the squad's entry at the No. 2 position. In his lone appearance at the No. 1 spot, he was leading against his opponent from Trinity when he was forced to retire due to injury. Obieta-Chichizola later earned his first collegiate victory on Feb. 8 against Hobart's Felipe Pantle.
Prior to Cornell
Obieta-Chichizola served as captain and competed at the No. 1 position for St. Paul's School during both his junior and senior seasons. In 2013, he was ranked second in the BU19 group at the county level in England.
Personal
Sebastian Thomas Obieta-Chichizola is the son of Ricardo Chichizola and Maricar Obieta-Chichizola, and his older sister, Martine Chichizola, plays field hockey at Duke. He is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the SC Johnson College of Business.
