A five-time county champion, he was named team most valuable player as both a junior and senior. The Bergen Record Swimmer of the Year in 2010, he was also named to the newspaper's all-decade team. Taylor was named the school's Best Male Athlete as a senior. While swimming for the Wyckoff YMCA Sharks swim team, Taylor helped the team to a secojd-place finish at the state meet. The team's captain in 2010 earned a spot on the short course national team from 2008-10 and the long course national team from 2007-10. He achieved All-America times in the 100 back.
