Biography
As a sophomore (2019-20)
• Competed in seven meets for Cornell as a sophomore.
• Tallied three personal-bests at the Zippy Invitational, including in the 50-freestyle (20.99), 100-freestyle (47.02), and 100-breaststroke (57.69).
• Made the B Final of the 50-freestyle at the Zippy Invitational, placing 15th overall.
• Finished in the top-five of the 50-freestyle at dual meets against St. Bonaventure, Binghamton, Columbia, and Brown, as well as an Ivy League tri-meet against Dartmouth and Harvard.
• Placed second in the 50-freestyle and third in the 100-freestyle in Cornell’s dual meet victory over the Bonnies.
• Helped the Big Red defeat Binghamton, finishing second in the 50-freestyle and fourth in the 100-breaststroke.
As a freshman (2018-19)
• Placed fourth in the 50 free against Brown.
• Finished fifth in the 100 breast versus St. Bonaventure.
• Placed sixth in the 50 free against Columbia and Bryant.
• Competed in the Bomber/Ithaca Winter Invitational in the 50 free.
• Achieved a pair of personal best times during the season.
Prior to Cornell
• Mackey was part of an undefeated senior season at Winston Churchill HS.
• Was elected team captain in his final year.
• Four-year varsity swimmer.
• Set records in the 50 long course free and the 200 short course free relay while competing for Rockville Montgomery Swim Club.
Personal
• Ian Douglas Mackey is the son of John and Maureen Mackey and has an older brother, Colin '19.
• He is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
