Biography
As a junior (2019-20)
• Raced in eight meets for the Big Red during junior campaign.
• Notched season-bests in the 100-freestyle (47.42), 200-freestyle (1:40.75), and 500-freestyle (4:37.04) at Akron’s Zippy Invitational.
• Won the B Final of the 200-freestyle at the Zippy Invite, finishing ninth overall, while also placing 12th in the 500-freestyle and 13th in 1650-freestyle.
• Part of the 800-freestyle relay that posted the sixth-fastest time in Big Red history (6:36.21) at the Zippy Invitational.
• Notched seven top-five finishes in his individual events during the dual meet season.
• Won the 200-freestyle in Cornell’s dual meet victory over St. Bonaventure.
As a sophomore (2018-19)
• Competed in six dual meets during the campaign.
• Part of the 800 free relay team that posted the eighth-fastest time in school history that took first at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational.
• Won the 200 IM in a dual meet victory over Bryant.
• Posted four finishes in the top three in dual meet races during the season.
• Earned the team's Joseph J. Lucia Team Spirit Award, given to the swimmer or diver who demonstrates passion and commitment to their teammates.
As a freshman (2017-18)
• Competed in six dual meets and the Ithaca Bomber Invitational.
• Earned three top three event finishes on the season - against Columbia (200 free), St. Bonaventure (1,000 free) and Brown (500 free).
• Was part of the winning 800 free relay team at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational.
• Took fourth overall at the Bomber Invite in the 500 and 1,650 free.
• Cracked Cornell's all-time top-10 list in two events, swimming the eighth-fastest 500-yard freestyle (4:29.73) and 400-yard IM (3:59.32) times in school history.
Prior to Cornell
• Was state runner-up in the 500 free while competing at Douglas Freeman HS.
• Was a four-time conference champion in the 500 free and a four-time team MVP.
• Graduated as the school record holder in the 50, 100, 200 and 500 free.
• Was one of three athletes chosen for induction into the school’s athletic hall of fame.
• Led team to an unbeaten season, a conference title and a regional runner-up finish in the program’s first year as a varsity sport (previously had been club).
• Team captain as a senior.
Personal
• Jack William McSorley is the son of John and Catherine McSorley and has a younger sister.
• He is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
