Biography
As a freshman (2019-20)
• Competed in all nine meets for the Big Red as a freshman, including the Ivy League Championships.
• Scored points for Cornell in the 100-breaststroke, 200-breaststroke, and 400-IM at Ivies, notching personal-bests in all three events.
• Made the B Final of the 200-breaststroke and 400-IM, placing 14th in both events.
• His preliminary 200-breaststroke (1:59.64) and 400-IM (3:55.40) times at Ivies both rank seventh all-time in Cornell history.
• Made the C Final of the 100-breaststroke at the conference meet, finishing 21st in a personal-best 55.90.
• Finished among the top-six in three events at Akron’s Zippy Invitational, including the 200-breaststroke (3rd), 400-IM (4th), and 200-IM (6th).
• His preliminary 200-IM time (1:50.54), along with his 100-breaststroke time (56.45), at the Zippy Invite both marked personal-bests.
• Secured five individual top-three finishes at dual meets over the course of the season.
• Notched a trio of top-two finishes in Cornell’s dual meet victory over St. Bonaventure, winning the 200-IM and placing second in the 100- and 200-breaststroke.
• Placed third in the 200-IM at an Ivy League tri-meet against Dartmouth and Harvard.
Prior to Cornell
• Four year letterman at Conrad Schools of Science where he was elected team captain as a senior.
• Named to the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Team in 2017-18.
• Earned the title of Delaware High School Men’s Swimmer of the Year in 2019.
• State Champion in the 100 breaststroke, 200 freestyle, and 400 freestyle relay as a junior.
• State Runner-up in the 100 breaststroke, 200 IM, and 200 medley relay as a sophomore.
• Two-time First-Team All-State selection.
• Swam on the club circuit for the Delaware Swim Team.
• US Senior National Qualifier in the 200 breaststroke.
• US Junior National Qualifier in three additional events.
• Holds the club record for the men’s 15-18 200 IM, as well as several Conrad Schools of Science school records.
Personal
• Ryan Michael Pirrung is the son of Scott and Joan Pirrung and has two younger brothers.
• He is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
