At Cornell
Tyghe Speidel returns for his sophomore year after gaining valuable experience in both the breaststroke and individual medley events as a frosh.  A highlight in 2009-10 for Speidel was his win in the 200 breaststroke vs. Colgate.

Prior to Cornell
Tyghe Speidel is an excellent all-around athlete that was a five-time letter winner on his time team for the Christian Brothers Academy.  He was honored as Team MVP for four of his five years and was recognized as team captain for his senior season.  Speidel qualified for the state competition eight times and placed seventh in the 100 breastroke.  He still currently holds the school'd record time in the Medley Relay.  Speidel also competed outside of his high school team with the Syracus Chargers.  There he was a team representative for two years and a sectional team member for three.  Besides excelling in swimming, Speidel was a member of his school's soccer team for two seasons and his track season for a year.

Personal
Tyghe Robert Speidel is the son of Keith Speidel and Ann Fondi.  He has a younger brother and a younger sister, as well as an older sister, Allie, who swims on the Duke Women's Varsity Swim Team. He is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
