Biography

Senior Season — 2016-17
Vrabel earned his second career All-Ivy League honor, where he was once again placed on the second team in doubles after posting a team-best 13 victories against eight losses in dual matches. His year started fast with a remarkable run to the USTA/ITA Northeast Region singles title, highlighted by six victories all in straight sets. His 11 singles victories in fall tournament play led the team. In spring dual matches, he had a pristine 9-1 mark from the No. 1 position, where he started off competing with Bernardo Casares Rosa before ended the year with Colin Sinclair. Four of the latter combination's victories came in Ivy League play, including a win over the nation's 25th-ranked pairing from Princeton. The duo also delivered a victory in the first round of the NCAA Baylor Regional, helping the Big Red to a 4-0 victory over Rice for the program's first-ever NCAA tournament win. Vrabel was also 13-7 in singles, proving to be one of the nation's best entries at the No. 4 position as evidenced by his 7-1 mark there. He had six straight victories through a particularly challenge part of the non-league slate, culminating with a three-set victory against an opponent from Oklahoma. He then delivered four Ivy victories and won in straight sets against Rice in NCAAs.

Prior to Cornell
Vrabel is one of the top recruits in the country, receiving a rare blue chip rating and No. 18 ranking from Tennis Recruiting Network — the highest among any incoming Ivy League player and the highest to recently come to Cornell. "A student at the prestigious Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Northern Virginia, Chris chose Cornell over some of the best schools in the country," said Silviu Tanasoiu, the Director of Intercollegiate Tennis and the Savitt-Weiss Head Coach of Men's Tennis. "Despite his high ranking, Chris has untapped potential that rigorous training will unleash. He is an exciting player to develop and he will make a name for himself in college tennis."
