Calin Paar helped the men's tennis team finish 14-8 overall and 3-4 in the Ivy League in his first season as an assistant coach. He joined the Big Red after serving one season as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Nebraska.
Paar had an impressive four-year career as a player for the Cornhuskers, helping the program to its first two NCAA tournament berths in 2010 and 2011. Paar finished his career fourth in the total singles wins for the program, playing out of the top two spots in the lineup. He was a member of the All-Big 12 Singles Team (2010), Academic All-Big 12 First Team (2010-2011), Academic All-Big 12 Second Team (2009), Big 12
Commissioner’s Fall Honor Roll (2008-2010) and Big 12 Commissioner’s Spring Honor Roll (2008-2011). Paar also served as the team’s captain in his senior year, ranking as high as 49th in singles and 17th in doubles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in May 2012 with a double major of Economics and Management.
Prior to his time at Nebraska, Paar competed on the International Tennis Federation as both a junior and a professional player. During his junior years, he had a career-high ranking of 119. On the professional circuit, he has obtained a career-high international singles ranking of 1,494. His best career wins involve a total of nine players that were, at one time, ranked in the top-200 by the ATP — including his win over Alexandr Dolgopolov in 2005.
