Biography
Goldstein made his forehand bigger over the past year and can now hurt opponents off either wing. He is working hard to improve his second serve and to take his volleys up another level. One of the toughest players mentally on the squad, Goldstein has a great knack for finding a way to win and possesses some of the quickest hands in the league. In the fall, he and Doppelt had a big win at the USTA College Invitational by defeating a top team from Alabama and then beating Columbia’s top doubles team
2007-08 Season
Goldstein was one of the most consistent players on the Cornell squad last spring, compiling six singles and nine doubles wins. Goldstein opened the spring by winning the all-Cornell final at the Columbia Classic over teammate John Fife. Playing predominantly at the No. 2 position for singles and doubles, Goldstein ripped off a five-match win streak to start the season in doubles, and ended on a high note, securing singles wins over both Penn and Princeton to close out the season. Goldstein took his game up another notch last fall, going 6-2 in singles and 10-3 in doubles. He was undefeated at the ECAC championships, playing at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles with Rory Heggie. Goldstein also paired with Heggie to advance to the quarterfinals in doubles at the Regional championships and defeated foes from Villanova, St. Peter’s and Drexel. He lost a tough three setter in the semifinals of the Cornell Fall Outdoor invite to teammate Marc Asch.
At Clayton
A two-time state champion, Goldstein is a graduate of Clayton HS where he was also a three-time MVP. A winner of the school’s sportsmanship award, Goldstein achieved a fourth-place national ranking in doubles.
Personal
Joshua Eliot Goldstein is the son of Joel and Maxine Goldstein and has one older sister. Goldstein is enrolled in Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences.
