Biography
At Cornell:Julian built on a strong freshman year by playing at No. 2 and earning second-team All-Ivy status in 2002. He came through with huge wins against Penn State, Brown, Dartmouth, Columbia and Penn. Last fall wasn't kind to Julian, as he was plagued by a thyroid problem, but he hopes to be back at the top of his game this spring. Playing No. 1 with partner Mike Schlappig, Julian clinched the doubles point against Army at the ECAC championships last fall. He is one of the hardest hitters on the team, with great athletic ability and foot speed. He is a student in the School of Hotel Administration.
At San Mateo:
He was the tennis team MVP all of his four years at San Mateo High School. Julian won the Northern California sectionals in 1997. He was No. 1 in Northern California in the 16-and-under rankings.
Personal:
Julian Mowen Cheng is the son of Dr. Kee and Mei-Lyn Cheng and has an older sister and two younger brothers. Born: 10-24-82.
