Biography

At Cornell: For the second year in a row, Cherner-Ranft was injured in the first tournament of the fall. At the Cornell Fall Invite, he seriously pulled a hip-flexor that sidelined him for the rest of the fall. The Big Red captain has plenty of match experience, and the team needs him to contribute in both singles and doubles. Cherner-Ranft is a clever lefty with excellent hands who knows when to play defense and when to attack. He is a student in the College of Arts and Sciences.

At Haverford: Cherner-Ranft was the team MVP and No. 1 singles player all four years at the Haverford School, gaining all-area honors each season. He was a top-five player in the Mid-Atlantic Tennis Association in juniors.

Personal: Matthew Sean Cherner-Ranft is the son of Martin Ranft and Susan Cherner and has an older sister.
