Biography

At Cornell: After missing the first month of the fall season with an ankle injury, Spencer fought to the D singles semifinals of the Yale Invitational. Although the injury slowed down his singles, he continued to play great doubles with classmate Zach Gallin. They were undefeated at No. 2 doubles at the ECAC championships and they advanced to the final 16 at the regional championships. Winner of the 2003 Most Improved Player Award, Spencer had the best record on the team in the spring with a 19-5 singles mark and he went 20-9 in doubles. He is a great competitor who plays with two hands on both ground strokes and is one of the best volleyers on the team. Spencer doesn[apos]t give his opponents any rhythm as he can play baseline and net, hit hard or soft, use top spin or slice. He is a student in the College of Arts and Sciences.

At Chadwick: Spencer played No. 1 singles at Chadwick School for four years, and he was the CIF champion in his senior season. He finished fifth in the Southern California junior championships and ranked No. 78 nationally. Spencer was considered one of the top doubles players in the country, ranking No. 4 in the 18-and-under division.
