Danny Llarenas brings a wealth of high-performance tennis experience to the Cornell men's tennis program, serving as the team’s sports psychologist and performance consultant. A former Division I student-athlete, Davis Cup competitor, and seasoned NCAA coach, Llarenas combines elite playing experience with advanced academic training in psychology to support student-athletes in achieving peak performance on and off the court.
Llarenas holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology and is a doctoral candidate in Counseling Psychology at the University of the Pacific, where his dissertation - co-authored with noted sports psychologist Dr. Andrea Becker - focuses on the post-game communication patterns of high-level coaches during NCAA championship seasons.
Through his private performance consulting practice, Llarenas has worked with ATP professionals and top NCAA programs, including the University of Nevada Reno and the University of Hawaii, contributing to conference titles and nationally-ranked athletes. His clients have included ATP tour doubles champions and ITA-ranked collegiate standouts.
As a player, Llarenas competed for the University of Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific University, winning multiple conference titles and representing Pacific Oceania in Davis Cup play, where he compiled a 22-8 record and helped establish the region’s best-ever doubles team (11-2 record).
In addition to his role with the Big Red, Llarenas serves as president of Lokahi Tennis Corp, a nonprofit focused on community-based tennis development, and was recognized with the 2021 Lokomaikai Award for his positive impact on the community.
