Biography
At Cornell: Following a dedicated summer and fall of 2007 in which he put in up to 100 miles per week, Miller exhibited as much improvement in all three seasons as any runner in recent Cornell history. Having never broken 27:00 for an 8k cross-country race prior to his junior year, Miller arrived in dramatic fashion as a harrier in 2007, steadily improving both fitness and confidence throughout the season, running 25:12 for 8k at Notre Dame and 25:02 at Pre-NCAAs. He anchored himself firmly in the top seven by mid-season and was the fifth runner for the Big Red at Heps with a 25th-place showing and a fine time of 25:25.8 at Van Cortlandt Park. He then ran fourth for Cornell at the Northeast regional to nicely cap off a fine season. Indoors, Miller put his fall fitness gains to use in a big way, first recording a huge PR of 8:20.10 for 3k, then establishing the fifth-best indoor mile time in Big Red history, a 4:06.19. At the indoor Heps in Barton Hall, Miller gave the home fans a thrill and the team a shot of inspiration when he charged to the lead of the mile final with 120 meters remaining and wound up second to the defending champion in a tight finish. The confident running and strong showings by Miller and teammate Charlie Hatch in the mile set the tone for fearless, courageous performances by virtually every Cornell athlete, and the Big Red stormed to an overwhelming team victory. Outdoors, Miller continued with an early-season 1,500m of 3:46.24 (fifth-best all-time) and finished fourth in a very strong field in the top 1,500m section at the Sea Ray Relays. He excelled once again at the Penn Relays with a 4:00.9 split on the 1,600m leg, as the squad finished seventh in the Championship of America section with 9:37.70, the second-best time in school history. Miller added another second place Heps finish in the outdoor 1,500m and tacked on an 800m PR of 1:51.14 at IC4As.
At Cedar Crest: Miller was the runner-up in the Pennsylvania state meet in the 800 meters and sported a best time of 1:54.61.
Personal: Andrew Michael Miller is the son of Bill and Shawn Miller and has an older brother.
