As a Senior (2016-17)
Jamerson won his second straight Ivy League Indoor Track and Field Championship in the heptathlon as a senior. He broke the school record and set a new Heps meet record and all-time Ivy League record with 5,756 points in the win and went on to place 13th in the event at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships. Outdoors, he finished third in the shot put and sixth in the discus at the UCLA Legends Invitational and went on to finish ninth in the high jump at Heps. Jamerson set or tied career-bests in the 60 (7.14), 1000 (2:48.57), 60 hurdles (8.05), high jump (6’10.75”), pole vault (14’11”), long jump (24’0.25”), shot put (43’1.5”), and discus (121’7”).
As a Junior (2015-16)
Jamerson had a stellar junior campaign for the Big Red in the multi-events, winning the Ivy League Championships both indoors and outdoors. Indoors, Jamerson set career highs in the 60 meter (7.14), 1000 meter (2:49.64), 60 meter hurdles (8.08), high jump (6’10.75”), pole vault (14’11”), shot put (42’4.25”), and in the heptathlon (5,654) and also took first place in the heptathlon at the Ivy League Indoor Track and Field Championships. Outdoors, Jamerson set personal bests in the 100 (7.14), 400 (50.91), 110 hurdles (14.47), long jump (23’8.25”), javelin (158’8”) and in the decathlon (7,161). He took first at the Heps (6,488) before earning a third place finish at the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
As a Sophomore (2014-15)
Jamerson continued to excel as a multi-event athlete, taking second in the decathlon at Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonals, finishing with 7,070 points, the third-best score in program history. He was also a member of the shuttle hurdle relay team that set a new school record at Penn Relays with a time of 58.10. At Indoor Heps, his third-place finish in the heptathlon with 5,242 points was good for third all-time at Cornell, while his 8.19 time in the 60m hurdles prelim tied him for eighth on the program charts in that event. He added second-place indoor finishes in the heptathlon (5,037) at the Upstate Challenge and in the 60 hurdles at the Southern Tier Collegiate Open.
As a Freshman (2013-14)
Jamerson was a major contributor, primarily competing in the multi-events, in his debut season for the Big Red. He kicked off his Big Red career with a 3rd place finish in the heptathlon with an overall score of 5025 at the Greg Page Relays. He improved to 2nd place and an overall score of 5063 in his next heptathlon at the Cornell Upstate Challenge. As the indoor season progressed he competed in some individual events, primarily focusing on the long jump and 60 hurdles. He took home 2nd place in both the 60 hurdles and the long jump at the Ithaca College Quad Meet. Jamerson really hit his stride at the conclusion of the indoor season. He continued to show consistent improvements throughout the range of his events, elevating his heptathlon score to 5078 in an impressive 5th place showing at the Indoor Heps. The following week he paced the heptathlon field at the Indoor IC4A’s, posting a career best score of 5179. As the season moved outdoors, Jamerson continued his meteoric rise. The freshman had an impressive 4th place finish in the decathlon at the Penn Relays. He wrapped up his season at the Outdoor Heps posting a career best 6717 overall score to again take 4th place.
Before Cornell
Jamerson competed in the high jump, long jump, 110-meter hurdles and the 4x100 relay at Merrillville HS. He was named the MVP of his track team in 2012 and 2013. Additionally, he finished third in the state of Indiana in the high jump in 2011 and eighth in the 110-meter hurdles. He played soccer at Merrillville.
Personal
Austin Dmitri Jamerson is the son of Alan and Denise Jamerson. His sister, Ashley is a student at Harvard. He is enrolled in the College of Engineering.
