Biography

At Cornell
As a freshman in 2008, Freitas had a stellar indoor season that culminated in  scoring at his first Heps and then smashing the freshman record in the 500m that had been set by Kippins the year before. He qualified for the IC4As in the 400m (49.10) and lowered the 500m record to 1:03.53 while also running a leg on the Heps championship 4x400m. He also split 1:54 on a 4x800m and was on the freshman record setting 4x400m relay. A foot injury dramatically slowed his progress in his signature event, the 400m hurdles, as he gradually dropped his time to 53.57 late in the season. During the outdoor season, he was constantly in injury management mode. His performances last year were just the tip of the iceberg as Freitas has exceptional potential and range. He may move more toward the 800m and bring his 48.40 speed into play, and better consistency will make him a major player at the Heps and beyond.

Before Cornell
Freitas was the MVP of his team at Thayer Academy, where he holds six school records. He was a two-time team captain and was a four-time league and New England champion in the 300m hurdles. Freitas also won the 400m three times in the league and New England and claimed a pair of 110m hurdles titles, also both in the league and in New England. He also played soccer and was on the swimming team.

Personal
Brian Christopher Freitas is the son of Mark and AnnMarie Freitas and has an older brother. He is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
