As a Freshman (2012-13)
Groton threw once for the Big Red in his first year, competing in the Cornell Relays in the shot put. He threw 42' 6 1/4".

Before Cornell
Groton is a strong thrower who has reached 53’ 7” in the shot put. He qualified for states in the winter of 2011-12 and was named All-Section and All-County while serving as a team captain. Outdoors in 2012, he qualified for the state meet again, placing third in the discus and fourth in the shot. He holds his school record in the shot put and also played four years of football as an offensive and defensive tackle.

Personal
Christopher Vincent Groton is the son of Clint and Maria Groton. His older brother, Jonathan, is also on the Cornell men's track team. He also has a younger sister, Margaret.
