At Cornell

Ziemian came to Cornell to get their masters degree in Biomedical Engineering. After earning said degree, Ziemian remained at Cornell as a Ph.D. candidate. Ziemian spends their time as a graduate research assistant with the Van Der Meulen Lab at Cornell focusing on examining the biomechanical and bimolecular interactions between the cartilage and subchondral bone in relation to load-induced post-traumatic osteoarthritis development.

Competitive Career

Before studying for their various graduate degrees, Ziemian was a four-year athlete at Duke University. The Duke women’s cross country teams had three top-20 finishes at the NCAA Championships while Zieman was on the team; eighth-place in 2009, 17th-place in 2010 and seventh-place in 2012. In 2010, they qualified for and then competed in the World Junior Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland after placing sixth at the US Junior Cross Country Championships.

Prior To Cornell

Before moving to East Hill, Ziemian served as both an undergraduate and graduate research assistant at the Orthopaedics Research Laboratory at Duke University. 

Personal

A current resident of Ithaca, N.Y., Ziemian has familial ties to the Big Red cross country and track & field teams. Their mother, Constance ‘84, father, Ron ‘84, and sister, Marina ‘14, all ran for Cornell. Ziemian is a native of Lewisburg, Pa.
