Clyde Russell

Biography

A three-year letterman, he was an outstanding pitcher for the baseball team. He was the only Cornellian to have earned three gold baseballs. Following graduation through 1923, he played semi-pro baseball, including one stint with the Albany Senators of the Eastern League and with Toronto. He was a veteran high school baseball coach and taught health and physical education at Albany (N.Y.) High School for 37 years until his retirement in 1957. In 1959, he moved to Claremont, Calif. , where he was involved with small fry in Little League and Pony League baseball. He was also an assistant baseball coach and in 1973 was named baseball coach emeritus at Cal Poly State University in Pomona, Calif.
