As a Senior (2013-14)Heck's lone race in his final season was at the Boston College Invitational, where he placed 30th with a time of 25:09.0.
As a Junior (2012-13)Heck ran one race for the Big Red in his junior year, taking 238th place in the very competitive Wisconsin Invitational. At the conclusion of the season, Heck was named one of three team captains for the 2013 year.
As a Sophomore (2011-12)Heck was a top runner for Cornell as a sophomore, scoring points for the Big Red in all but one of the meets he ran. Heck started the year with a fourth-place showing in the Army-Binghamton tri-meet, then followed that with a sixth-place finish at the Colgate Invitational. Heck was the team's fourth finisher at the Paul Short Invitational and took 27th place overall (second on Cornell) in the Heptagonal Championships. Heck's season concluded when he ran 129th place at the NCAA Northeast Regionals, good for sixth place among Big Red runners.
As a Freshman (2010-11)Heck enjoyed a surprisingly consistent cross country season, finishing fourth or fifth for the Big Red in every meet. As a member of the Heptagonal and Regional squads, he earned the “Freshman of the Year” award, as well as a varsity letter. On the track, Heck won the indoor 3000m run at the Mark Deneault Invitational, but injuries and allergies plagued the rest of his indoor and outdoor seasons.
Prior to CornellFollowing a slow-start in high school, Heck had a break-out senior campaign in both cross country and track. After a runner-up finish at the Division 1 state cross country championship meet in the fall of 2009, Heck was awarded “District Runner of the Year,” as well as being named academic all-conference and team MVP for the second year in a row. On the track, Heck won the Division 1 state title in the 3200 meters, set the Big Eight outdoor conference meet record in the 1600 meters in 4:16.43, and posted the ninth-fastest 3200 in Wisconsin history, with a 9:01.09 clocking at the Midwest Distance Gala. This effort broke the previous school record set by future Olympian Gabe Jennings. Heck was awarded MVP both his junior and senior years in track, and served as a team captain in both cross country and track his senior year.
