Avery's up-to-date results

As a Junior (2017-18)

• Tied for 10th all-time at Cornell in the indoor 60 meters (6.84).
• Saw action in the indoor season, collecting five top-five finishes in the 60 and 200 meters.
• Placed seventh in the 60 (7.72) at the Indoor Heps.
• Ran season-best mark of 22.09 seconds in the 200 at the Scarlet and White Invitational

As a Sophomore (2016-17)
• Carried on his success from his freshman campaign into this season as he racked up three wins, including the Ivy League Outdoor title in the 4x100 meter relay.
• Also took third in the 100 at the outdoor Heps with a collegiate-best time of 10.70 seconds and fourth in the 200 (21.56w).
• Also earned victories during the year in the 200 and 4x100 relay at the Oxford/Cambridge vs. Cornell/Penn meet with his time of 21.59 in the 200 being a collegiate best.
• Efforts on the 4x100 helped qualify the relay for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round.

As a Freshman (2015-16)
• Had a solid inaugural outdoor season for the Big Red, earning first place finishes in the 100 (10.87) and 200 (22.24) at the Outdoor Upstate Challenge and replicated those finished at the Big Red Invitational.
• At the Ivy League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, ran two personal college best to finish 13th in the 200 (21.95) and ninth in the 100 (10.83).

Before Cornell
• Avery was stellar in the sprints in high school, winning a USATF Hershey National Youth Indoor Championship in the 200 meters in 2015.
• He finished runner-up in the 55 meters at the same event.
• A two-time state champion in the 100 meters, he earned a third state title in the 200 in 2014.
• He also finished fifth in the 100 at the 2014 New Balance National Emerging Elite Finals and third at the North Carolina Junior Olympic State Finals the same year.
• The Cary Academy record holder in the 100 and 200, Avery was named the team’s MVP in 2012-13 and 2013-14.
• He was also captain of the Junior Varsity basketball team and a three-time co-chair of the North Carolina Youth Legislative Assembly Appoint Committee.

• Jonathan Wesley Avery is the son of Elbert and Katrina Avery.
• He is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
