As a Junior (2013-14)Hanninen participated in four events in his third year for the Big Red. He posted a season best 1:08.67 in the 500, scoringing a 7
th place finish at the Deneault Memorial. He also competed in the 400 hurdles, posting a season best 57.45 in a 6
th place finish at the Cortland Classic Invitational.
As a Sophomore (2012-13)Hanninen continued his multi event prowess in his sophomore season, scoring a season high in the heptathlon of 4,152 at the Cornell Relays in December. He also set new personal records in the 400 hurdles and the high jump during the season.
As a Freshman (2011-12)Hanninen made a large impact on the Cornell program indoors as a freshman, placing sixth in the 60-meter hurdles at the Indoor Heps and scoring a point for Cornell. He ran the second leg of Cornell's 4x400 relay, a squad that took second place at that meet. An 8.29-second 60 hurdles also puts him 10th in school history in that event. He also scored 3,572 points in the pentathlon during the indoor season, which is the fourth-best score ever at Cornell.
Before CornellHanninen ran multiple events, from the 110 high hurdles to the 800 meters and just about every other race in between during high school. He was a horizontal jumper as well. In 2011 he was the New Hampshire Indoor 600 meter state champion in three divisions as well as the outdoor 400 champion and triple jump champion in one division. Hanninen was a three-year varsity soccer player, one-year varsity basketball player, and a one-year varsity cross country runner.
