Biography
At Cornell:
When not hindered by a not-fully-understood blood disorder, Walsh has exhibited talent with a light, dynamic running style. As a junior, he set PRs in both the 1500 (3:52.95) and 5k (14:52.04). As a sophomore, after missing cross-country with mono (after missing most of freshman year with anemia) and despite lacking a substantial base, Walsh finally got the chance to display his talent on the track, recording a six-second personal best of 4:13.26 in the mile at the Big East vs. Heps meet, and scored at both indoor Penn State meets in the 3,000 meters. He also anchored the distance medley relay to a scoring position in a tightly-contested Heps indoor championships race. At Jesuit: Walsh ran on Jesuit’s state 4A champion cross-country team as a junior and was 25th individually at state as a senior, as the Crusaders took runner-up team honors. Personal: Joseph William Walsh is the son of Robert and Marcia Walsh and has an older sister at Cornell.
