Biography

At Cornell
Repeating as the HEPS Champion in the vault is a tough thing to do in the ever competitive HEPS. Almost no one has done it during the last 30 years. As a sophomore Josh won the coveted indoor title and was All-East but had his outdoor season cut short by an injury. His junior looked to be getting started on another level when a knee injury during a Heptathlon long jump cut short his progress. The multitalented Kirkpatrick bounced back after about a month off to finish 3rd at the HEPS equaling his then pr of 5.00m (16’ 4 ¾”). During the outdoor season he showed he was not finished improving as he qualified for the NCAA Regionals at 5.05, finished 3rd again at the outdoor HEPS and 4th at the Canadian National Championships. He then improved again to 5.10m (16’9 ¾”). Josh is 3rd on the All-Time outdoor list at Cornell. There’s more in the tank for Kirkpatrick as he gets better at harnessing his talents. He also has bests of 10.83 in the 100m and 23’4 ½” in the long jump and has his sights set on doing the heptathlon and decathlon as a senior. As a co-captain this year he’s ready to do anything and everything he can to make it to the NCAA’s, challenge the school records and lead his team to another HEPS title.

Before Cornell
